Job Title:

Senior Accountant

Reports to:

Manager or Director of Accounting

SUMMARY:

The Senior Accountant responsible for the production of accurate accounting records, reports and reconciliations across the company’s locations, including corporate departments. The Senior Accountant ensures accounting functions are performed accurately and timely to include monthly close, financial review, and other assigned tasks. The Senior Accountant may informally review the work of staff accountants in related functions. The Senior Accountant may also be responsible for hiring, developing, and supervising one or more staff accountants. A successful candidate will demonstrate leadership skills to support the goals and objectives of the organization, be organized and detail-oriented, able to adhere to strict deadlines, and maintain a high degree of accuracy and integrity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for completing a timely and accurate monthly accounting cycle for assigned entities and departments, to include, among other assigned duties:
  • Preparing monthly drafted department and account-level reports, working with various others to verify completeness and accuracy
  • Ensuring all monthly transactions are recorded and reconciled to subsystems as required
  • Reconciling and adjusting all assigned balance sheet accounts
  • Delivering timely and accurate bank account reconciliations to include researching and recording of any outstanding items
  • Analytically reviewing balance sheet accounts and documenting month end income statement variances and analyzing trends
  • Communicating pertinent financial information to accounting and corporate management
  • Serve as the point person for key company-wide accounting areas including insurance premiums, insurance claims costs, property taxes, utilities, and other corporate-managed costs
  • Informally review the work of others, leading and supervising when assigned:
  • Review, approve and ensure that transactions are recorded and reconciled to subsystems as required
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, providing guidance and assistance to resolve outstanding items
  • Oversee timely and accurate bank account reconciliations to include researching and recording any outstanding items
  • Conduct analytical review of statements of operations and balance sheets and document monthly variances in partnership with accounting management
  • Assist site general managers, FP&A, and corporate staff on the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets
  • Work with Accounting department leadership to ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP
  • Identify, recommend and implement improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls to promote compliance, consistency, and efficiency
  • Serve as a “go-to” problem-solver for staff and others
  • Collaborate with other senior accountants, promoting ongoing and timely communication among the team
  • Prepare and review audit schedules as assigned
  • Safeguard the company’s assets by ensuring that all company policies, procedures, and internal controls are followed
  • Actively participate in the Company’s accounting systems projects
  • Perform other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than their own

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work overtime as needed to meet accounting deadlines

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Four-year Accounting degree with 3 to 6 years industry accounting experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience of at least 1 to 2 years preferred
  • CPA license is not required but is a plus
  • Experience leading the monthly closing cycle and preparation of multiple site internal financial statements
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel and Word. Intermediate to advanced level Excel skills required.
  • Great Plains Dynamics/eEnterprise system, FYIsoft reporting platform, Anaplan, or similar, experience a plus
  • Multi-unit, private club, hospitality or property management accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret retail product labeling. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

SCHEDULE:

  • Monday through Friday, 40+ hours per week
  • Overtime as needed

WORK LOCATION:

In corporate office location Monday through Thursday, with flexibility to work remotely most Fridays currently. Subject to change to meet business requirements.
