Now, this is your opportunity to help your colleagues.Job Description:As the Senior Medical Advisor, you will add capacity and expertise of CPSA in the areas of physician prescribing assessment and competency enhancement. You will work as a team member with other Senior Medical Advisors, Directors, and Program Managers from various CPSA programs to ensure that regulated members remain competent throughout their careers.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gather and analyze information regarding a physician’s prescribing of monitored medications, determine if follow-up is required.
  • Analyze information from various data sources to assess prescribing trends or issues, prepare summaries and recommendations on findings.
  • Review physician responses to CPSA prescribing queries, draft correspondence, and address as required.
  • Respond to telephone calls and correspondence regarding prescribing questions from regulated members, pharmacists, and other health professionals or Albertans.
  • Interact with regulated members to evaluate, mentor and educate in the areas of competence and performance.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of current projects through consultation and engagement of the profession.
  • Lead projects in the Analytics, Innovation, & Research (AIR) department on behalf of CPSA, function as a key team member, and liaise with other CPSA departments.
  • Participate and support certain CPSA/AIR committees.
  • In support of the Physician Prescribing Practices and the Tracked Prescription Program (TPP), responsible for:
  • Establishing, attending, and/or chairing committees as required to support department mandate.
  • Liaise with other provincial and national Colleges and Faculties of Medicine to assist with evolution to national standards and ensure best practice in delivery of CPSA’S programs.
  • Provide education, support and counsel for physicians performing competence assessments on behalf of CPSA.
  • Participate or lead various research studies within the various competence programs at CPSA.
  • Present information to faculty members, residents and students on matters of importance for and about CPSA.

  • MD, CCFP or equivalent, and/or Royal College Fellowship, eligible for licensure in Alberta.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in clinical practice and recent administrative experience.
  • Broad medical knowledge and experience in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Previous experience in assessment, teaching, developing competency-based assessment tools and/or remedial programs is an asset.

Skills:

  • Requires sound knowledge of CPSA policies and practices, and interpretation of professional conduct and standards or practice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong data analytical skills.
  • Strong interest in quality assurance programs with an education focus – development and delivery or remedial programs designed to improve regulated member performance.
  • Computer literacy including familiarity with MS Office is required.
  • SharePoint experience is an asset.

SALARY
The salary for this position is $258,451 and includes a comprehensive benefit package and pension plan.During the 90-day probationary period, the successful candidate will be required to work from CPSA’s downtown Edmonton Office.
