The Fix are recruiting for a Product Development Manager for the toy and gift sector.You Will:
Assess the viability of new products and, once in development, ensure that they continue to solve customer problems. To do this, a PDM will carry out market research, liaise directly with sales team, closely monitor industry trends, and manage the technical development of the product with all stakeholders.Roles & Responsibilities: * Formulate, manage and implement company’s forward looking Product Development range plan in line with company’s Brand Strategy, Lineplans, QC and Sales Objectives.
- Manage Product Introduction Process, (NPI) from end to end:
- Ensuring critical paths are set and deadlines are met both internally and by suppliers.
- To ensure smooth handover of New Product to Purchasing, ensuring new product is compliant and delivered as required.
- Using IT systems as appropriate to ensure clear communication.
- Monitoring of New product launches, analysis of top selling products and formats and contributing factors to ensure ongoing improvement.
- Coordinate market research of all markets we operate in and could operate in to ensure product range is competitive in terms of price and also innovative in terms of new materials and product formats as necessary.
- New Product Costing Process
- Build solid commercial knowledge relevant to the new product development process and manage within the agreed margin requirements and budgets of the company
- Understanding the business product costing requirements and developing compliant products that meet these criteria. Negotiating prices with suppliers where needed and working with purchasing, QC and finance functions on coordination of price finalisation and production planning
- Working with the Director of Product & Creative and Marketing Services to present new products, plans and ideas to the company.
- Working within our Creative team to create briefs for products and packaging to internal and external designers.
- Supporting designers to ensure product is designed to the correct criteria.
- Supplier/ Factory Liaison, involving travel to suppliers in the Far East, (as is required).
- Management of relationships with existing suppliers
- Sourcing new suppliers where needed
- Working with the QC manager to ensure all supplier factory audits and certificates are present and up to date
- Liaise with Purchasing on finalisation of New Product P.O. Placement and purchase planning.
- Licensor Approvals
- Build and manage communication with property owners to present and ensure approval of product development from concept through to manufacture and delivery of licensor production samples.
- Product Specification
- Working with the product development team and the suppliers to ensure product specifications are completed and accurate before point of order and as required by them and suited to their customers needs.
- Coordinate clear communication of specifications of new products and updates to existing product to QC, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing and Warehouse using the Master Data File, (MDF) and the Running Changes File, (RDF), ensuring accurate and up to date information is presented and understood.
- QC and QA
- Working closely with the QC and Safety Manager and designers to ensure all product and packaging adheres to relevant QC and QA requirements throughout development and manufacture.
- Maintain strong current knowledge of all relevant safety, QC and QA regulations, with reference to product, production processes and factory auditing
- New Product Sample Management
- Coordination of new product development samples through from initial samples, QC samples to approved sealed samples
- Management of sample/ mock up requirements for retailer presentations and reviews.
- Assisting in creation and production of collateral sales and marketing material and presentations as required.
- Direct Expenditure Budget Responsibilities: formulate plans, secure authorisation and manage implementation within agreed budget parameters:

Expected salary
£30000 – 35000 per year
