Peraton is seeking a Senior Open Shift / MuleSoft Engineer (“Engineer”) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals on our Department of State (DOS) Bureau Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) Program. The CAEIO Program provides IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting Consular Affairs (CA) services globally.

The Engineer will be a member of the Applications Support team, responsible for providing support services related to the installation and deployment of CA applications. This senior-level role requires strong leadership, hands-on technical skills, and deep expertise in container orchestration, integration platforms, automation, and production support.

Key responsibilities include deploying and supporting critical applications on OpenShift, automating processes with AAP, managing MuleSoft APIs, and working with Service Mesh technologies to manage microservices traffic, security, and observability. The position requires after-hours business support and a professional, team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

Deploy, manage, and monitor containerized microservices and MuleSoft APIs in OpenShift, ensuring availability, security, and performance.
• Administer and troubleshoot MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including API deployment, Runtime Manager, and monitoring.
• Implement and manage OpenShift Service Mesh technologies to control service-to-service communication, enforce policies, and enable observability.
• Develop and scale automation using Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for infrastructure, Application, and integration layers.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in OpenShift security, including RBAC, pod security, secrets, network policies, and image compliance.
• Deliver expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis across the full technology stack – infrastructure, application, integration, and network.
• Participate in and help lead the on-call support, ensuring quick, efficient resolution of production issues after hours.
• Draft/maintain high-quality technical documentation and SOPs for deployments, automation processes and recovery procedures.
• Plan and direct upgrades and system enhancements.
• Provide system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.
• Serve as liaison with clients and teammates, participating in meetings and communicating clearly and concisely to ensure all needs are understood and addressed.

Core Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM ET – 3:30 PM ET (Flexible).

Location: This position is hybrid with remote work and one day per week in the office in Sterling, VA. The number of days the Engineer works onsite is subject to change based on government/program requirements (for example, surge support might require the individual to be in the office more than two days per week).

This position is hybrid after the Engineer completes a 4-6-week onsite New Hire Training Program, during which the Engineer will work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM in Sterling, VA. After completing the training program, the Engineer will work their assigned schedule.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship and an active SECRET Government Security Clearance.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with OpenShift, including enterprise-grade cluster administration.
• 3+ years of experience working with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform and deployment and managing APIs under OpenShift.
• Extensive experience in Jenkins and understanding CI/CD pipeline design and automation scripting.
• Strong proficiency with Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for infrastructure and application automation.
• In-depth understanding of OpenShift security practice and tools (RBAC, SCCs, network policies, secrets, container image scanning).
• Advanced troubleshooting skills across to full stack – containers, APIs, integration, network, OS, and database layers.
• Experience on SQL queries, specifically, debug in support of integration flows and platform diagnostics.
• Experience in multiple monitoring tools, such as Splunk, AppDynamics and Zabbix.
• Proven ability to manage production support in fast-paced, changing environments.
• Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends for unplanned maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of meeting deadlines independently.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with AWS Cloud Services, such as CloudWatch.
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration
• MuleSoft Certified Developer/Integration Architect

$112,000 – $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
