The Opportunity

This position works out of our Menlo Park, CA location in the SH division.

Structural Heart Business Mission: Why We Exist.

Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.

As the Senior Research and Development Engineer, you’ll have the chance to be responsible for providing process development engineering expertise in the creation and development of next generation medical device products. This Senior R&D Engineer will use a wide variety of technical skills and reasoning in designing, characterizing and improving manufacturing processes in parallel with the component design team. This role will require designing and running testing, analyzing mechanical systems, initiative in identifying/improving/resolving manufacturing processes or product features, and documenting findings via protocols, test reports and engineering memos.

What You’ll Work On

  • Develops and designs processes for manufacturing next generation devices via design of experiments, material/adhesive property selection and/or developing novel manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of process characterization and research & development.
  • Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates mechanical assemblies, materials, components, and equipment.
  • Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.
  • Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Directs support personnel and coordinates project activities.
  • Investigates and evaluates existing technologies.
  • Reviews or coordinates vendor activities to support product development.
  • Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.
  • Participates in the development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing guidance and work direction, and offering counsel.
  • May lead a project team.
  • Participates in determining goals and objectives for projects.
  • Influences middle management on technical or business solutions.
  • May interact with vendors.
  • Plans and organizes non-routine tasks w/approval.
  • Initiates or maintains work schedule.
  • Establishes priorities of work assignments.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution.
  • Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.
  • Write and submit intellectual property (patents).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Masters Degree (± 18 years) preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years related work experience with a strong understanding of specified functional area.
  • Wide application of technical principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of business unit function and cross group dependencies/relationships.
  • Will perform this job in a quality system environment.
  • Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Has a sound knowledge of various technical alternatives and their impact.

The base pay for this position is

$86,700.00 – $173,300.00
