The RoleWe are looking for a seasoned backend engineer to join our team and take on the development and maintenance of our backend services that facilitate billions of dollars in mortgage loans. These services are primarily written in Ruby and occasionally Node.js, and we utilize AWS (such as S3, SQS, SNS, and Lambda, etc., managed by Terraform) for our infrastructure and Postgres and Redis as our databases/caches.The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about software reliability, observability, and security and can work independently with little guidance while making decisions that balance business and technical considerations. The role involves dealing with complex systems for sending and processing financial data securely and reliably, so we are looking for someone who is not afraid to tackle complexity and unknowns. Strong technical writing skills and an emphasis on clear and accessible documentation are an asset. We are specifically looking for someone with strong Ruby on Rails skills as well as proficiency of JavaScript technologies such as React and Node.js.You’ll be responsible for:

• Maintaining and owning business-critical backend services
• Improving the observability and uptime of our services, as reliability is a key aspect of our business model
• Writing clear technical documentation and guiding other team members
• Managing deployment processes and expanding our automated testing suite
• Continuously improving our development processes and advocating for best practices

Additional experience that would be beneficial:

• Experience in the fintech industry
• Knowledge of mortgage and/or private lending industry practices
• Understanding of Agile / Scrum / Shape-Up practices

You must be a current Canadian resident to be considered for this role. This role has a salary range of $110,00 – $170,000 CAD which accounts for the skills you’ll bring to the team, the impact you’ll have on the business, and the growth you’ll experience in the role.
