Do you want to work in a fully UKAS-accredited, modern laboratory environment where you can make a difference?These roles sits within the Microbiology Admin Team who provide admin support based at the Northern General Hospital and requires an experienced and proactive senior secretary with a proven track record in managing and team working in a hospital environment. The post holder must have a proven ability of working independently and take a proactive approach in their work.The Laboratory Medicine Directorate is divided into several specialist departments including Automated Blood Sciences, Specialist Blood Sciences, Blood Transfusion, Point of Care Testing, Microbiology, Virology and Histology. These departments have laboratories at both the Northern General Hospital and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and in some instances are also networked with other external NHS Trusts.The Directorate provides an analytical service that assists in the diagnosis of infection and disease in inpatients, outpatients, and community services in addition to offering specialist testing services to other hospitals.Main duties of the jobDaily oversight in running of the administrative and clerical office, ensuring adequate staffing levels are in place including implementing rotas.Undertake effective prioritization of own workload and the coordination of activities and duties related to the role.Ensure efficient office processes to meet turnaround time targets and prioritize workload of other more junior members of the team.Analyse information to identify trends, reorganise working practices, and report findings to the Service Coordinator.Maintain operational procedures, standards, and recommend improvements for a high-quality service reporting anomalies to the Service Coordinator.Assist in reviewing and implementing policies and procedures to meet local and national guidelines.Ensure efficient throughput of daily workloads to achieve set targets.About usThe South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership fully integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of the Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint; Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.The Pathology Partnership will provide the best possible service for patients and clinicians, improving health outcomes, delivering quality and efficiency benefits and ensuring a sustainable workforce for the longer term.DetailsDate posted19 May 2025Pay schemeAgenda for changeBandBand 4Salary£26,530 to £29,114 a year pa/pro rata for part time staffContractPermanentWorking patternFull-timeReference number190-0332-DIRJob locationsThe Northern General HospitalSheffieldS5 7AUJob descriptionJob responsibilitiesPlease view the attached Job Description and Person Specification documents for full details regarding this post.When completing your application please ensure that you clearly demonstrate how you meet the role criteria.
