You will influence the decisions for your team, the product capabilities and the software architecture of the domain. You’ll be working with a team of driven, experienced software engineers who enjoy proactively improving existing software systems and supporting long-term operational stability. For you, complex problems are not intimidating but rather puzzles to be solved. You’ll need to work well within a team, be eager to learn from others, and be motivated to share your experience and skills.This position is primarily based out of our North Vancouver office, but we’re open to a hybrid remote work setup. Please note that candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.Meet Your Future Team:The technology team builds the backbone for arcteryx.com, outlet.arcteryx.com, leaf.arcteryx.com and our retail technical systems. We work with cross-functional agile squads to build and roll out new features, improve performance, build self-serve tool for our business stakeholders and create an amazing online experience for our guests. \nIf you were the Senior Software Engineer now, here are some of your core responsibilities and activities:

• Working on becoming the Subject Matter Expert of your specific product business domain
• Having end-to-end responsibility for product of increasing complexity that encompass more than their own development.
• Holding a depth of knowledge in systems that enables them to debug those systems effectively without failing
• Demonstrating at least one major skill outside of programming such as devops, performance optimization, monitoring, or visual design
• Producing technical documentation for existing part of the system and proposition to refactor part of the product domain
• Participating extensively in code reviews, and proactively mentor others via code reviews and pairing
• Executing performance tuning, improvements, balancing, usability, and automation
• Contributing to the common code bases and defining best practices and standards for the team
• Making presentations at team meetings for knowledge sharing and raising the bar purposes
• Participating and being an active member of the Engineering Guild and working on guidelines for the group
• Being responsible for complex tasks and complete them despite roadblocks, reaching out to others for help or insight as necessary
• Being capable of owning technical design for projects of moderate complexity and understanding the short and long-term trade-offs in creating good software in their area
• Requiring very little oversight beyond high-level direction; you are able to take a complex user story, break it down into sub-tasks, and complete their sub-tasks with relative ease
• Showing initiative beyond knocking tasks off a list; you are able to identify and suggest areas of future work for yourself or your team
• Seeking evidence to support your ideas and start building cases for these ideas
• Working effectively with non-tech members cross-functionally. You have the ability to identify problems with requirements and help their team course-correct around these issues
• Conducting technical interviews and helping others learn best practices
• Applying the Arc’teryx leadership code (Lead Self & Lead Others) and exhibit these values in your daily work

Are you our next Senior Software Engineer?

• You have 5+ years relevant experience with full stack development in an Agile/Scrum environment and mobile development
• You are a programming language polyglot, and you excel in 1 or 2 languages
• You have extensive knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS
• You have experience working with native mobile development languages like Swift, Kotlin or React Native
• You are used to work with transactional and NoSQL databases
• You are proficient in writing and maintaining automated user tests and unit tests
• You advocate for a schema-first approach, i.e. defining the API schema first before writing any code or implementing the APIs
• You have experience integrating with 3rd party APIs, OAuth 2.0, headless solutions
• You have experience working with cloud computing providers, container solutions, and CI/CD pipelines
• You have knowledge of Micro Services concepts and architecture
• You have experience with CDN, Web Servers, Load balancers configuration and management
• You have great communication, problem solving, and documentation skills
• You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
• You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity

\n$94,000 – $129,000 a yearA reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$94,000 – CAD$129,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
