This course will include weekly lectures and seminars, required readings, student presentations and a term paper. Topics will include the accurate representation of numerical and statistical data, innovative approaches to visual representation and appropriate use of design elements for clarity and legibility. Practical application of course material will require students to develop visualizations that yield insight into complex biomedical subject matter and successfully communicate to a range of audiences..Estimated course enrolment: 18Estimated TA support: 40-50Class Schedule: Specific dates to be determined in consultation with the MBiotech Program Office (NOTE: All courses at UofT Mississauga are expected to be delivered in-person in Winter 2025)Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 8th- April 8th, 2025Salary: $17,267.74 (includes 4% vacation pay)Minimum Qualifications: Physical sciences, or engineering undergraduate training; Masters level training in either data management or data visualization; exposure to life sciences, especially medical devices, helpful; expertise in the use of the software Tableau is essential; R coding an asset.Preferred Qualifications: Same as minimum qualifications.Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: Selecting and inviting a series of speakers if deemed appropriate. Coordinating student team projects. Meeting with each of the student teams to guide/advise them on their projects. Holding office hours as required.
