Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)Description:Course number and title: DTS200Y1F Introduction to Diaspora and Transnational StudiesCourse Description: This course is an interdisciplinary introduction to the study of diaspora, with particular attention to questions of history, globalization, cultural production, and the creative imagination. Material will be drawn from Toronto and diasporic communities in other times and places. The position is for the second half of the course.Estimated course enrolment: 50Estimated TA support: 65 hoursClass schedule: Mondays 10:00-12:00, Wednesdays 10:00-12:00, Fridays 10:00-12:00

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $9,930.79
Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77 Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,326.62
Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,570.02Please note that should the rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in social sciences or humanities
  • Background in areas related to diaspora and transnationalism, as well as ethnic and cultural studies, is required.
  • Ability to teach online if public health issues require

Preferred qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of the subject area and demonstrated ability in university teaching.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Previous experience in teaching a similar course is preferred.

Description of duties:

  • Design, preparation, and weekly delivery of course content
  • Coordination of an undergraduate course
  • Providing scheduled office hours and/or electronic communication for academic counselling of students
  • Setting and marking assignments in collaboration with the TA
  • Supervising the TA
  • Submitting grades
  • Dealing with student inquiries, appeals and petitions
