This course provides an overview of the field skills for the developing outdoor leader. Students are exposed to wilderness recreation and travel, outdoor living, navigation, environmental ethics, and leadership. Students will develop skills for planning and managing hiking activities to lead a one-day trip into basic hiking terrain.Estimated TA support:Estimated course enrolment: 35Class schedule: TBDSessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025Appointment percentage: 0.5 FCESalary:Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term – $9,930.79Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term – $10,326.62Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term – $10,570.02Minimum Qualifications: PhD preferred in a relevant area, or combination of relevant expertise and experience. Teaching experience in college or university setting is an asset.Description of duties: All duties associated with the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course, if applicable.
