Job Posting for Sessional Instructor (Lab Coordinator)This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.Posting Date: October 8, 2024Closing Date: October 30, 2024, at 11:59 pm ESTPosition: Sessional Lecturer (Lab Coordinator)Course Title and Code: CHM135H1 – Chemistry: Physical Principles (0.5 FCE)Course Description: This course is recommended for students in the life and health science programs. The course opens with an introduction to atomic theory; fundamental concepts of spectroscopy and chemical bonding are also introduced. After a brief review of reaction stoichiometries, the structure of matter – gases, liquids, solids and beyond – will be discussed. The solution state is then presented with an emphasis on properties of solutions including chemical equilibria in solution, particularly those of acids and bases. The course concludes with an introduction to the kinetics and the thermodynamics of reactions of both chemical and biochemical interest.Estimated TA support: 300 hoursEstimated course enrolment: 200 studentsIn-person class schedule: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (2:00 – 5:00 pm)

Experience lecturing and/or coordinating laboratories in general or physical chemistry at the university level will be preferred.Description of duties: The Department of Chemistry requires a sessional lecturer to coordinate in-person laboratories in CHM135H1 (Chemistry: Physical Principles) during the 2025 Winter session.
