Responsible for the day-to-day activities of crews on assigned projects. Provides guidance and direction to crews in meeting the budgets and schedule dates on each project. Manages the labor and material cost for assigned projects in component, system or assembly area. Ensures job quality and customer satisfaction is maintained in every stage of the project. Interacts with clients, customers and vendors to build lasting relationships. Creates the type of positive environment that works to maintain a sufficient and qualified work force.
Essential Duties
- Operates and supervises equipment and machinery, ensuring employees have required certifications. Implements operator-based maintenance and coordinates daily activities. Conducts regular performance management conversations to support employee growth.
- Establishes and adjusts work sequences to meet construction schedules utilizing knowledge of equipment/tools and assigned personnel. Keeps the shop production manager aware of all issues affecting production, schedule, and costs.
- Inspects work in progress and completed work to ensure conformance to specifications. Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions. Meets and maintains quality and production standards for all work product, including corrective measures for any nonconformance. Ensures recording of time spent on individual work orders is accurate.
- Performs all required safety observations and follows prescribed safety regulations. Eliminates site hazards as they are recognized and ensures proper use of all Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment for all direct reports. Conducts tool box meetings, and maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Leads and sustains the elements of 6S.
- Studies and interprets shop drawings to determine necessary work to be performed. Estimates and communicates man-hour needs based on workload, minimizing down time. Coordinates placement and storage of materials, tools and supplies to support on time delivery.
- Ensures that delivered materials match work order bill of materials and that the company is charged accurately. Manages consumable spend in their area, and ensures all areas are using the materials provided to produce product with minimum waste and rework.
- Assists in identifying conflicts or need for clarification in contract documents.
- Works with tools to meet construction schedules or other demands as needed. Holds all necessary certifications and is able to operate overhead cranes and forklifts as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will also be considered.
Possesses associated licenses and/or certifications required by trade for the position (i.e. Journeyman’s license for plumbers).
Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in construction or related field.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing procedures, equipment and OSH guidelines.
Understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.
Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints.
Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
Ability to communicate and report effectively.
Aptitude in math.
Problem-solving abilities.
