Positions Location: East Lansing, MI
General Purpose of Job:
Lead, plan, organize, staff and evaluate the operation functions of the Helath Information Management (HIM) department including Release of Information, Enterprise Master Patient Index and External Review units.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
General Requirements • Certification as an RHIA or RHIT by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Work Experience • Minimum 3 years of functional experience in an HIM Department • Minimum 3 years of HIM – Release of Information experience in an Acute Care Hospital • Experience with Supervising or Lead Release of Information in an Acute Healthcare setting – preferred. Education • Associates degree in Health Information Management (HIM), Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field; OR High school Diploma/GED with a combination of three years equivalent experience. Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Knowledge of Medical Record format and content for all patient records • Competent knowledge and understanding of anatomy • Competent knowledge of medical terminology • Ability to review record and recognize content • Ability to review record and identify patient identification • Ability to perform job function and make decisions without direct supervision • Detailed Oriented • Strong Computer skills in Microsoft and various healthcare related software applications • Ability to interact with customers in a service oriented manner • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Excellent Organization skills
