Senior Site Reliability Engineer (System Engineer V)
Location: Santa Clara, California, US
Work Model: Hybrid (onsite three days per week)

You’ll work on meaningful challenges: designing resilient systems that power 5G/6G networks, leveraging LLMs to automate operations, and building infrastructure that thousands of developers depend on. What you will do:

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll design, develop, and operate Ericsson Web Services (EWS)-our internal cloud-native platform built on Kubernetes. You’ll work hands-on across the full infrastructure stack, from bare metal to container orchestration to AI-powered automation.

Key Responsibilities:

* Design, architect, and implement cloud infrastructure for EWS, optimizing Kubernetes platforms for cloud-native workloads across compute, storage, and networking layers
* Build and maintain automation tooling for infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and operations using Infrastructure as Code practices
* Develop and operate SRE systems leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) for AI-driven operations and intelligent automation
* Implement and maintain cloud security practices including vulnerability scanning, security monitoring, compliance automation, and incident response
* Provide SRE on-call support covering North American time zones
* Engage with Ericsson’s AI communities and external ecosystems (academia, open source) to stay current with cloud and AI technologies
* Collaborate across research, product development, architecture, and service teams on AI solutions for 5G/6G and IoT systems, including predictive operations, anomaly detection, and intelligent network analysis

The skills you bring:

Required Technical Skills:

* Cloud-Native Infrastructure: Deep hands-on experience operating production-grade Kubernetes environments, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, and capacity planning
* Linux Systems: Strong Linux administration skills including systemd, networking (bridges, VLANs, routing), storage, and performance optimization
* Automation & IaC: Proficiency in Python, Bash, and Go; experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation frameworks
* Containerization: Solid understanding of container runtimes (containerd, Docker), image management, and container orchestration
* Networking: Experience with Kubernetes networking (CNI, Cilium, Calico), load balancing, and service mesh concepts
* Storage Systems: Hands-on experience with cloud-native storage solutions (Ceph, NFS, object storage) and Kubernetes storage concepts (CSI, StorageClass, PVC)
* Observability: Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or similar)
* CI/CD: Experience with GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar platforms for building automated pipelines
* AI-Powered Development: Experience with AI-assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) and LLM-powered automation
* Bare Metal & Virtualization: Knowledge of bare metal provisioning and virtualization technologies (KVM, libvirt)
* Secret Management: Familiarity with secret management solutions (Vault, OpenBao)
* CNCF Ecosystem: Understanding of CNCF landscape and ability to evaluate emerging cloud-native technologies
* Database Operations: Experience with database systems (MySQL, Redis, PostgreSQL)

Note: We value proven ability to quickly learn and master new technology domains. Candidates with strong fundamentals and demonstrated adaptability are encouraged to apply even if not experienced in all listed technologies.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
* 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering roles
* Strong problem-solving skills with a curious, hands-on approach to learning new technologies
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working across distributed teams

Your Pay
The salary range for this position is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, and the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.

Santa Clara $164,000-214,700

Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan (select STV or SIP): Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit’s objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.

Employees will receive company credits in an amount equal to the cost that Ericsson pays toward the cost of their medical and dental premiums for themselves and eligible covered dependents.

Your Financial Security

We invest in both your short and long-term financial wellbeing. The Ericsson US 401(k) Plan offers an automatic 3% company contribution and Ericsson match $1 for every $1 you put into the 401(k) Plan on the first 3% of your eligible pay, plus 50 cents on every $1 on the next 2% of eligible pay. When you contribute at least 5% of eligible pay, you are receiving Ericsson’s full matching contributions of 4%. Matching and company automatic contributions stop when your total eligible pay for the year reaches the IRS limits. Employees will also receive company credits in an amount equal to the cost of basic life insurance and basic accidental death and dismemberment coverage, as well as short-term and long-term disability coverage. Employees also have the option to participate in Ericsson’s Stock Purchase Plan.

Your Time
Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided a minimum of 15 days of accrued vacation, up to 3 personal days per year, 11 annual holidays, 8 hours of volunteer time, and 80 hours of sick time annually. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee’s start date. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 16 weeks of paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of parental or adoption leave at 100% of pay.
