Our organisation

Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) provides a Joint headquarters to plan, prepare and conduct operations to support NATO’s core tasks, at the Joint Operational level, as directed by Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).

The Management Directorate enables the full range of HQ functions through the coordination of services and activities.

The Information and Knowledge Management Branch (IKM) is responsible for the management of information within JFC Brunssum from cradle to grave.

The Information Knowledge Management Training, Tools and Processes Section facilitates and coordinates all IKM activities across JFCBS.

The incumbent supports the Planning, Training and Tools (PTT) Section Head in preparation for and execution of exercises and operations and is responsible for the HQ information management.

The main duties of Staff Officer (IKM Plans) are:

  • Responsible for supporting IKM PTT Section Head in planning input to exercises and operations and any activity outside of tasker tracker management.
  • Representing IKM interests at Exercise and Operational Planning events (Core Planning Team (CPT), Initial Planning Conference (IPC), Main Planning Conference (MPC), etc.).
  • Liaison on Information Technology and network configuration requirements and is the IKM lead on activities delivering Information Exchange Requirements for exercises and operations.
  • Supporting the JFCBS IKM Working Group (WG) (pan divisional/directorate WG held quarterly).
  • Supporting IKM PTT Section Head in the management, review and maintenance of the JFCBS IKM Plan and Operational IKM plans.
  • Supporting changes in organisational mission, business functions and processes and organisational roles from an IKM Plans perspective.
  • Undertakes work as part of a project team or working group as directed or assigned.

The incumbent may be required to undertake deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY assignments, both within and without NATO boundaries. Such operational deployment may exceed 30 days duration up to 183 days in any period of 547 days, and may be on short notice. For NATO International Civilian Staff, acceptance of an employment contract linked to this post constitutes agreement to deploy in excess of 30 days if required.

Required Qualifications are:

  • English – good – NATO Standard Language Proficiency 3333

(Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) in accordance with NATO standard agreement (STANAG) 6001.

NOTE: The work both oral and written in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English.

  • University Degree or equivalent in related discipline.
  • Proven knowledge of current information management systems and processes.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience introducing, using and supporting Information and Knowledge Management systems or industry equivalents.
  • Professional experience supporting operational or exercise planning.
  • Experience working directly with senior leadership.

Desirable Qualifications are:

  • Staff experience in a large Organization, HQ, Joint Command, NATO HQ or MOD.
  • Experience working within diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Completion of relevant training courses for this role.

The successful candidate possesses following personal attributes:

ü Excellent communication skills, both oral and written – able to communicate at all levels;

ü High level of interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy;

ü Ability to effectively work in an international environment;

ü Problem solving skills.

The successful selected candidate needs to have a NATO security clearance and is required to pass a medical examination before an employment contract offer will be released. The medical examination will take place with our medical consultant and is required to determine if the recommended candidate is fit to perform the duties, and is deployable to NATO’s areas of operation.
