The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Supervisor Mental Health Therapist will function as part of the leadership team at the Strong Minds Clinic. As an administrative supervisor, they will be responsible for the provision of clinical supervision and will include training, evaluation, and administrative oversight. They will collaborate with referral sources, lead treatment team meetings, as well as engage in program planning and development. The Supervisor Mental Health Therapist also provides direct clinical care as a Strong Minds clinician. In the role of clinician, the team member provides evidence-based treatment to patients and their families and is responsible for assessment, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and therapy. As a member of the leadership team this role also supports other leadership functions such as continued development of the CCBHC, work standards, and input for the overall flow and functioning of the Strong Minds Clinic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides supervision to staff clinicians and trainees. Shares responsibility for the quality of care being provided by the supervisee (e.g., shares knowledge of evidence-based assessment and interventions, community resources, models ethical behavior and standards, provides regular feedback on strengths and areas for growth, communicates with other members of the supervisory team). Supervisors provide oversight to ensure that supervisees meet service standards (e.g., clinical productivity and timely completion of high-quality documentation). Leads interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, to include facilitating discussion of clinical cases and documenting minutes of those meetings.
  • Provides direct patient care including short-term evidence-based treatment to patients and their families and is responsible for assessment, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and therapy. Mobilizes patient, family, and natural support networks when clinically indicated. Meets minimum target for clinical productivity. Provides direct patient care including initial mental health/safety assessment, and evidence-informed crisis intervention, as well as follow-up recommendations and linkage to appropriate community resources and treatment.
  • Collaborates with appropriate collateral contacts and provides linkages to community resources. Coordinates with other resources in the community and within SMH to ensure continuity of care for identified patients. Provides back-up as requested and able to other units/programs during the absence of certain co-workers.
  • Coordinates appropriate referrals and linkage to mental health services as clinically indicated. Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with referral sources and other professionals both internal and external throughout patient care activities (e.g., PCPs, community mental health agencies). Coordinates with professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University as well as support staff regarding patient scheduling, fees, and insurance issues.
  • Documents treatment in patients’ electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations. This includes the development of family centered, comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for patients with clearly defined therapeutic goals with patients and families.
  • Teaching: Based on experience and as determined by departmental leadership may supervise mental health counselor interns or other master’s level graduate students. Also, may offer expertise for psychiatric residents, medical students, and family medicine residents. Supervision relates to psychosocial assessment and intervention with patients and their families.
  • Maintains professional CEU requirements by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences.

Other duties as requested by the Strong Minds Clinic.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from a counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling or a related field required.
  • 2 years’ experience working with adults with behavioral health disorders required.
  • Supervisory experience. Leadership experience preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities to provide mental health services to adults required.
  • NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist or Creative Arts Therapist) required.
