Responsibilities
The Supervisor, Health Information Management is a working leadership role that is responsible for both performing medical record technician duties as well as supervising and coordinating the day-to-day functions of Medical Records Technicians in the Health Information Management department. The position serves as a subject matter expert on all HIM department process workflows, policies, and procedures. The role provides leadership support and supervision of the medical records technicians actively participating in the process of ensuring the appropriate release of confidential medical information, operational support, and ongoing improvements to efficiencies. Position reports to the Director, Health Information Management.
This is a work-from-home position with no more than 10% travel the the related centers they support on occasion.
Medical Records Technician Duties – 75%
- Prepare charts for new participants and ensures accuracy of information received
- Update demographic and emergency contact information
- Maintains the active, closed, and purged records for all participants
- Files documents into participant records on a timely basis
- Complies with orders tracking policy in reaching out for specialty reports and closing the loop on referrals
- Complete Release of Information Requests
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations
- Evaluate and maintain the integrity of patient medical records and EMR systems
- Chart Correction and other EMR duties as assigned
Supervision of Medical Records Techs – 25%
- Collaborate with HR and Director-HIM to qualify applicants for HIM tech positions, interview, and onboard new HIM staff
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately and evaluate employee performance
- Training of HIM staff on updates to workflows, policies, and procedures
- Supervise daily operations in the Health Information Management Services department
- Manage Kronos, annual evaluations, competencies, and Success Improvement Plans as needed for HIM techs
- Other duties as assigned by Director-HIM
- Allocate resources to provide quality service, considering the economic use of time, supplies, and equipment
- Review and analyze clinical records for completeness and accuracy
- Ensure departmental standards are met and quality work is performed and documented appropriately
- Build effective relationships with internal and external customers, including physicians, peers, and management
- Plan for department needs relative to resources and future growth
- Work with Director of HIM to continually enhance team efficiencies and competencies
REQUIRED
- 4+ yrs Medical Records experience
- Working knowledge of EPIC EMR
- High school diploma or GED
PREFERRED
- Supervision of medical records technicians or demonstrated progressive responsibilities
Posted Salary Range
USD $24.00 – USD $27.00 /Hr.
