Duties

  • As Chief, Programs, Policies, and Projects (PP and P) Division, formulates, reviews and recommends technical/engineering strategies and oversees the technical integration into worldwide programs.
  • As a recognized professional authority in the area of Information Systems technology provides professional information services, consultation, and advisory services to the DCS G6 CIO, Commander US Army South, higher headquarters, and other agencies.
  • Develops major and complex engineering solutions and technical projects concerning systems, facilities, equipment, standards, practices and “state-of-the-art”, leading edge information technologies.
  • Initiates challenging, conceptual studies and strategies for future goals and objectives taking into account factors as policy, economic, political, physical and social environment; and state-of-the-art technology.
  • Initiates and develops authoritative recommendations, and advises on policy changes needed to meet the technological advances.
  • Assesses the direction and impact at the DoD/DA level on major information systems initiatives and issues to address the need for command implementation or interoperability.
  • Participates in the formulation of significant policy, short and long range planning, and executive management.
  • Creates solutions for new or modified programs that have extensive resource and mission implications.
  • Provides recommendations and conclusions that are considered technically authoritative and have major effect on the activities of the command.
  • Plays a significant role in planning the need for and commitment of personnel and financial resources; in recommending the appropriate program implementation approach; and various other areas of command management.
  • Performs the full range of supervisory functions.
  • Plans, schedules, assigns work to include establishing work priorities and deadlines, and reviews work when required.
  • Coordinates work and ensures support to other units; anticipates vacancies, works with the DCS G6 front office to initiate recruitment actions, interviews and select candidates; develops and revises position descriptions; develops performance plans.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent is required to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, (5CFRPart 2634, Subpart I Confidential Financial Disclosure Reports) upon entering the position.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includes experience planning, directing, and supervising division work to develop and implement programs, policies, plans, procedures and projects concerning the design, acquisition, integration, and management of information and information technology. Experience in the field of information systems and possessing technical knowledge relative to engineering, design, applications, automation, and integration of diverse and complex information systems. Working knowledge of operational functions such as information management, information technology management, information resources management, knowledge management, program analysis, policy development, management analysis, acquisition procedure, contract administration, information assurance, security administration and other activities related to IT management.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

Education
