SummaryDirector of Transplant ResearchThe Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an established independent investigator in transplantation research at the level of associate professor or professor. Responsibilities will include developing and overseeing a robust research program, training surgical residents and postdoctoral fellows, and developing and sustaining ongoing collaborative relationships with research leadership throughout the department, the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety (IQuESt), and the College’s basic science departments. The investigator’s primary area of focus should be in health services research regarding solid organ transplantation.Required Education and Experience:Ph.D. and/or M.D. or D.O. is required; strong history of federal grant support, including current including NIH, VA HSR&D, PCORI, or AHRQ funding; investigators and in interdisciplinary teams; successful track record of training students and postdoctoral fellows; accomplished academic record sufficient to fulfill criteria for an associate professor or professor level faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine.Job Summary:The Director of Transplant Research at Baylor College of Medicine/CHI St. Luke’s Transplant Institute will be is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, operation, and administration of the transplant research program. The Director of Transplant Research will work with the Director of the Transplant Institute to grow a robust research program and will assist faculty and trainees in developing health services research in addition to basic/translational research and clinical studies.Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the organization’s transplant institute research operations and performance.
  • Mentors junior faculty and teaches residents in transplant clinical and health services research methodology, including how to identify the most effective ways to organize and deliver high quality care, prevent errors, and implement safer care.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs, and evaluates the transplant clinical trials operations and performance.
  • Plans and directs the submission of proposals for extramural funding in support of health services, clinical, and basic/translational research focused on solid organ transplantation.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Surgical Research to recruit, supervise, schedule, and direct the daily activities of transplant clinical research and laboratory staff.
