DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is looking for a well-rounded Technical Manager – Traffic. This position will be a key member of our engineering and planning team in our Milwaukee, WI office and within the Great Lakes Region. Candidates for this position should have a background in traffic engineering with an emphasis on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and communication systems. The successful candidate should have experience with work zone traffic control, signing, pavement marking, traffic signal plans, and intelligent transportation systems. The individual should have design and/or post-design experience for ITS deployments such as Dynamic Message Signs, tolling systems, radar detection systems, CCTV cameras, adaptive traffic signals, tolling systems design and specifications, and fiber optic and wireless communication systems including familiarity with ITS design standards. You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to lead/manage the preparation of engineering plans, reports, technical specifications, perform highway capacity analysis and prepare construction estimates and schedules for local and regional projects. You will have the opportunity to instruct and guide less experienced engineers in developing engineering plans, reports, and analyses. The Technical Manager – Traffic will utilize their knowledge and skills to support our project teams in delivery of projects through planning and design.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Business leadership:
- Develop and implement strategic operational plans aligned with company goals
- Establish, lead, and mentor, traffic engineering team, as necessary
- Support management of budget and resource allocation for the department
- Collaborate with other department heads to ensure smooth cross-functional operations
Technical leadership:
- Manage a team of traffic engineers to perform the following technical duties:
- Perform traffic studies, analysis, and modeling projects
- Develop and implement traffic management strategies
- Coordinate with city planners and other departments
- Ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards
- Evaluate and implement new traffic technologies
- Manage project budgets and timelines
Technical
- Review of ITS contract documents submissions to the client from design consultants
- Contract documents may include ITS plans, details, specifications, construction cost estimates, reports, and calculations related to ITS design.
- The individual will coordinate directly with the client and provide review comments to be incorporated with other discipline comments, in a formal memo document.
- Familiarity with the project delivery process such as concept development, Preliminary Engineering, and Final Design phases to reflect appropriate comment responses.
- Review ITS and communication working drawing submissions and test results during the construction phase
- Ability to multi-task between varying projects and stay organized
- Perform field assessments on an as-needed basis.
- Prepare design plans, construction documents, specifications, and construction estimates
- Prepare traffic engineering reports
- Conduct or oversee traffic analyses on intersections and roadway networks using transportation planning/engineering software
- Professionally represent Michael Baker International at technical meetings with agency staff, clients, and contractors
- Support the preparation of technical proposals and conducting business development activities – both locally and regionally
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- 10+ years of experience minimum
- Professional Engineer License
- Driver’s License
- Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements and driving operational efficiencies
- Strong project management skills
- Active involvement in industry events and professional organizations
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Attention to detail, effective decision making, and organizational skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines and manage staff
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting to support project delivery
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $120,818 to $188,704. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
