Brief Introduction of IMBCAMS
The Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (hereinafter referred to as IMBCAMS), founded in 1958 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, is a national scientific research institute integrating medical research, development and production of biological products, and postgraduate education. During the 66 years of development, we have established an independently innovative vaccine development system, which encompasses laboratory research, non-clinical studies, scale-up, clinical studies, commercial production, and post-marketing re-evaluation. We actively undertake major scientific research tasks such as the National Key R&D Program, National Natural Science Foundation Program, National Major Scientific and Technological Special Project for “Significant New Drugs Development”, and National Science and Technology Major Project on Prevention and Control of Major Infectious Diseases.
Taking on the responsibility of addressing the strategic development needs of the national public health, during the construction of a core base for building a national medical science and technology innovation system, we focus on the research and development (R&D) of innovative vaccines and the upgrading of traditional vaccines, breakthrough the key technical bottlenecks in basic research, process development and production of vaccines, continuously optimize the industrial structure, enhance the level of industrial development, and contribute to the prevention and control of major infectious diseases in China.
I. Disciplines
IMBCAMS is the master’s and doctoral training unit of Peking Union Medical College (Medical School of Tsinghua University). Based on biologicals, focusing on vaccine R&D, we have formed a multidisciplinary development mode that integrates pathogen biology, immunology, genetics, biologicals, and zoology and a diversified pattern of talent cultivation.
II. Scientific Research Supporting Platforms and Six Main Research Centers
IMBCAMS has set its sights on the top scientific research institutions at home and abroad, integrated research efforts, focused on research directions, and oriented itself towards innovative vaccine R&D. Relying on the Kunming National Primate Research Center of High-level Biosafety and Public Experimental Platform Center, we have established six main research centers focusing on viral vaccines, bacterial vaccines, genetically engineered vaccines, infection and immunity, emerging infectious diseases and disease outbreaks, and adjuvants and delivery systems. We have also built an innovative vaccine R&D platform and an assistive technology platform for vaccine R&D.
Recruitment Positions and Support Policies

I. Compensation Packages
According to the relevant policies of CAMS&PUMC and IMBCAMS, competitive annual salary, generous housing subsidies, sufficient and stable research start-up funding, laboratories and office will be provided.
II. Team Building
According to the characteristics and development of the disciplines, strong support will be provided to build research teams, introduce talents, recruit postdoctoral researchers, enroll graduate students, etc.
III. Establishment, Social Security and Other Benefits
Once selected, candidates will be hired under the public institution’s staffing system and will enjoy social security and medical insurance benefits as stipulated in the public institution’s regulations. Additionally, based on the local policies, assistance will be provided in matters related to the settlement of the spouse and children’s household registration.
Position Application Requirements
I. Tenured/Tenure-track positions
- In principle, the applicants shall hold the nationality of the People’s Republic of China, uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China and the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China, and have no record of academic misconduct or violations of regulations and discipline;
- The applicants shall have good moral character, political integrity, proper conduct, decent work attitude, self-discipline and integrity, a strong sense of responsibility, a meticulous approach to work, and a passion for the medicinal and healthcare industry;
- The applicants should be in good health and capable of meeting the job requirements;
- For those eligible for tenure-track or tenured positions, the applicants should possess excellent academic integrity and noble teaching ethics, as well as an innovative and exploratory spirit and an excellent work style of teamwork.
Requirements
(1) In principle, professors should be no older than 55 years old. For academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, the requirement can be appropriately relaxed. The applicant should have the potential to become a leading researcher in his/her discipline, and should be a tenured associate professor or above or an equivalent position in a world-renowned university (top 50 in overall ranking or top 20 in subject ranking) or a research institution of comparable level, or be a professor or an equivalent position in a first-class university or scientific research institution in China. He/She should have outstanding achievements in teaching, scientific research and social service, and be able to master the development direction of his/her own discipline. He/She also should have outstanding achievements in the field of the discipline recognized by peers, and landmark scientific research results, or have established distinctive and influential academic viewpoints, academic ideas and academic theories. Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering can be directly appointed as tenured professors.
(2) In principle, tenure-track associate professors should be no older than 45 years old, and tenured associate professors should be no older than 50 years old. The applicants should be the top talents among their peers in scientific research, and have the potential to become academic or technical leaders in the field. In general, the position of tenured associate professor requires that the applicant should be assistant professor or above or an equivalent position in a world-renowned university (top 50 in overall ranking or top 20 in subject ranking), or be a professor or an equivalent position in a first-class university or scientific research institution in China.
(3) In principle, assistant professors should be no older than 40 years old. For female researchers, the applicant should be no older than 43 years old. Applicants should have strong academic research and teaching ability, have established a distinctive research direction in the frontier areas of the discipline and made outstanding academic achievements, and have considerable potential for development.
- In principle, the applicant should apply for tenure-track positions first, and those with outstanding achievements may apply for tenured positions directly. For highly demanded disciplines, talents who do not meet the above application requirements but with outstanding performance, may be exceptionally recommended for a tenured associate professor or professor position if they apply and are approved.
II. PUMC Young Scholars/ PUMC Overseas Young Scholars Support Program
The programs implement the “3+X” training model, and regard postdoctoral researchers as an important talent pool of the teaching and research team of IMBCAMS. In addition to recruiting high-level talents, teaching and research positions will in principle be filled preferentially from outstanding postdoctoral personnel. Upon completion of the postdoctoral training, those who meet the appointment criteria for tenure-track/tenured positions can apply for assistant professor positions and those with outstanding achievements can apply for tenure-track associate professor directly. The successful candidates will receive comprehensive support, including salary, settlement allowance, and start-up research funding, as per the policies for recruited talents.
- Meet the requirements of relevant documents of the National Postdoctoral Management Committee, as detailed in http://www.chinapostdoctor.org.cn;
- Should have outstanding scientific research performance, good academic ethics and excellent research potential;
- No more than 35 years old when starting the postdoctoral training in IMBCAMS;
- Once being selected, should engage in full-time postdoctoral research;
- With no record of academic misconduct or violations of laws and discipline in the past 5 years;
- Generally, applicants should have obtained the Ph.D. degree within the last 3 years or be recent Ph.D. graduates who are about to complete their studies.
Other Notes
(1) Applicants who have been selected for the national postdoctoral talent programs, including Postdoctoral International Exchange Program and Postdoctoral Innovative Talents Support Program, may be directly selected upon the recommendation of IMBCAMS.
(2) Under the same circumstances, priority will be given to postdoctoral researchers recruited by mentors who have undertaken tasks of national key scientific research projects, national key scientific research bases, and/or achieved major scientific and technological achievements, and/or received provincial, ministerial-level and above educational and teaching commendations and achievement awards.
