Primary Responsibilities
HDR’s Traffic Engineer works as part of a traffic team on a variety of traffic analysis and design-related transportation projects. Duties include: working closely with Project Engineers and other team members; assessing traffic operations and safety using modeling software; collecting, organizing and analyzing large amounts of data to support traffic safety and operations analysis; evaluating and analyzing multimodal transportation needs; identifying geometric, traffic control or technological solutions to address existing transportation system deficiencies; evaluating, modifying and designing traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS); designing roadway traffic features; research and identifying new and innovative solutions to plan for and adapt to the growth of technology in transportation; preparing project documentation; sharing project work and conclusions with project team members, clients and the public; and providing analytical support to transportation plans and travel models.

Required Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related engineering field and 2 years’ experience in traffic engineering or a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related engineering field and 5 years’ experience in traffic engineering.
- Required experience may include professional, internship, or university research experience and must include experience in: transport planning; transportation safety; data regression and analysis, including the use of Python or other computer language; MS Excel; and ArcGIS.
- Accepting licensed and unlicensed candidates. Professional Engineer licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.
- Overnight travel within North-Central United States once or twice per year for 1 to 2 nights per trip.
