position Summary
The Training Coordinator reports to the Supervisor of Meter Services and plays a critical role in supporting meter services operations through the coordination, delivery, and documentation of training, safety compliance, and new hire onboarding. This position ensures employees are properly trained to perform accurate and timely meter readings while adhering to ACRT/Bermex policies, client requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. The Training Coordinator serves as a liaison between field employees and supervision, reinforcing safe work practices, operational readiness, and performance expectations in both office and field environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training, Safety, and New Hire Onboarding
- Coordinate and conduct new hire onboarding, including orientation to company policies, job expectations, safety requirements, and meter reading procedures.
- Deliver, track, and document required safety training, including initial, refresher, and client-mandated training.
- Ensure employees successfully complete (the) required Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training prior to performing covered tasks.
- Maintain accurate training, safety, and compliance records in accordance with ACRT/Bermex and client standards.
- Identify training needs and coordinate refresher or corrective training in collaboration with supervision.
- Support employee development through coaching, mentoring, and reinforcement of safe and compliant work practices.
- Perform hands on training in the field
Meter Reading Operations Support
- Examine meter readings obtained by Meter Readers prior to transfer into the billing system to ensure accuracy and usability.
- Prepare and coordinate monthly meter reading route schedules.
- Assign daily meter reading tasks to ensure completion of all routes within assigned cycles.
- Input meter readings into handheld computers as routes are being read.
- Perform daily loading and preparation of handheld meter reading devices to ensure proper setup and meter sequencing.
- Review missed readings and operational issues and coordinate follow-up with Meter Readers and supervision.
- Ensure meter reading equipment is available and functions properly; notify supervision of deficiencies.
Safety, Quality, and Customer Support
- Identify, document, and report hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents in accordance with company and client reporting requirements.
- Reinforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe work practices.
- Refer customer complaints or escalations to appropriate authorities.
- Provide general information regarding meter services to customers when applicable.
Safety & Compliance Accountability
- Consistently comply with ACRT/Bermex policies, client-specific safety standards, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Coordinate and reinforce new hire safety onboarding, ensuring completion of all required orientations and training prior to independent field work.
- Support delivery and documentation of ongoing safety training, monthly tailgate training, and corrective coaching.
- Assist supervision with safety observations, audits, and corrective action follow-up.
- Promote a culture of Stop Work Authority, empowering employees to pause work when unsafe conditions exist.
- Support compliance with all client contracts, utility requirements, and pipeline safety regulations, including DOT and operator-specific standards where applicable.
Required Qualifications
Must Haves
- education: High School Diploma or GED; must be 18 years of age or older.
- experience: One (1) + year of meter reading experience. Must successfully complete and pass all required Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training upon hire.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license required.
- Training & Safety Readiness: Ability to support safety training and new hire onboarding activities and reinforce safe work practices.
Nice to Have
- Education: Some post-secondary education.
- Experience:
- Two (2) or more years of meter reading experience.
- Experience training, coaching, or mentoring employees.
- Familiarity with safety programs, onboarding processes, or field operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong flexibility in daily routines, route scheduling, and training coordination.
- Effective time management skills to meet operational and training deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with management, employees, and customers.
- Ability to professionally handle difficult or dissatisfied customers.
- Strong attention to detail for data accuracy, problem-solving, and documentation.
- Physical ability to walk long distances and work outdoors in varying weather conditions while modeling safe work practices.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office and outdoor field work.
- Frequent walking over long distances in varying weather conditions.
- Use handheld electronic devices and other meter reading equipment.
