Background/Context

Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with Women-CSOS and other relevant actors.
In Myanmar, UN Women’s priorities include ensuring that stakeholders have increased information for policymaking and multi-sectoral response planning and programming across the humanitarian peace and development nexus, developing and implementing social cohesion and livelihood initiatives for women in emergencies by increasing capacity on humanitarian action for women led CSOs and humanitarian stakeholders and supporting increased access to effective services and protection mechanisms for violence against women.
Duties and Responsibilities
Description of Responsibilities/ Scope of Work
The consultant will work under supervision of Programme Specialists, UN Women Myanmar to ensure following tasks and deliverable are submitted.
- Translation of documents from English into Myanmar (costed per number of words)
- Translation of documents from Myanmar to English (costed per page)
- Proof-reading of documents from English into Myanmar (costed per number of words)
- Proof-reading of documents from Myanmar to English (costed per page)

Consultant’s Workplace and Official Travel
This consultant will be home-based for on-line service.
The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, which facilitates direct engagement of the consultant depending on need and availability within the contract period for a pre-agreed fee.

Required Skills and Experience
Education and Certification:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in any related field.
Experience:
- At least 4 years’ professional experience in English-Myanmar-English written translation services.
- At least 4 years professional experience in proof reading.
- Experience in translation for UN agencies or other development organizations is preferable.
- Familiarity with Programme management/Results Based Management, CEDAW, Gender and Development, Women, Peace and Security, Migration terminologies and humanitarian terminologies is required.
Language
- Fluency in both English and Myanmar language is required.
