TITLE: TIMS Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS: Position involves for the safe and efficient operation of the transportation program systems. Arranges transportation for assigned students to include special needs. Investigates and reports bus accidents. Work is performed under the general supervision of the TIMS District Supervisor with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervisory experience and Associate Degree desired

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have or be able to obtain a class B CDL with S & P endorsements.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motion.
  • Must possess the visual acuity and physical dexterity to work with computer equipment and related peripherals.
  • Must pass alcohol and drug tests as per DOT, FMCSA and local board regulations as required

REPORTS TO: Transportation Director

JOB GOAL: Develops and maintains bus routes using the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS). Work involves routinely coordinating with school administrators, dispatching of drivers/buses and ensuring that all school district buses are staffed with drivers, following established routes and prepared time schedules. Conducts transportation studies relating to school consolidation or for improving existing transportation services. Assist with hiring school bus drivers and verifies time/attendance for payroll. Assists Transportation Director with any specialized reporting request from state and local boards as assigned

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: 

  • Investigate vehicular accidents and/or incidents of vandalism.
  • Respond to parental concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assist with substitute driver and monitor scheduling.
  • Communicate with school bus drivers.
  • Oversee the global positioning system on all vehicles within the school district.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of each device at all times.
  • Oversee the digital camera systems on school buses.
  • Obtain and review camera footage as needed.
  • Verify/updates daily Infinite Campus import into TIMS.
  • Oversee the routing system and ensure all state guidelines are maintained.
  • Randomly review GPS logs to ensure buses are following designated routes and procedures.
  • Provide bus drivers, schools, and LEA departments with all route information regularly.
  • Verify student addresses with accurate locations through applications such as GIS.
  • Coordinate with other departments and schools to assign students to transportation for after school, summer school, McKinney-Vento, EC, and other groups as needed.
  • Monitor weather and road conditions.
  • Coordinate random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Prepare reports as required by Transportation Department and NC DPI.
  • Attend training as required.
  • Attend local meetings with supervisor to provide technical assistance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation.

.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of the practices of school transportation methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of pupil transportation operations.
  • Ability to plan work of others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of digital video camera systems preferred
  • Knowledge of global positioning systems preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of school system staff.
  • Ability to establish evaluation strategies and implement formative and summative activities.
  • Knowledge of PC computers and related equipment.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of GIS based mapping peferred.
  • Ability to organize and schedule workload and adjust when needed.
  • Experience in pupil transportation, routing preferred.
  • Ability to solve problems with limited assistance

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate North Carolina driver’s license for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Must have or be able to obtain a class B commercial driver license with S & P endorsements. 

Terms of Employment: 12-month work year/At Will Employee/FLSA Non-Exempt

Salary Grade: 64

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
