UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work carried out at HQ, Regional Hubs and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan 2022-2025. Within the GPN, the Crisis Bureau (CB) guides UNDP’s corporate crisis and fragility related strategies and vision for crisis prevention, response, and recovery. The Bureau has the responsibility for support to prevention, crisis response, resilience, recovery, and peacebuilding work under the auspices of UNDP’s Strategic Plan.
The Governance, Rule of Law and Peacebuilding Hub comprising of CB and BPPS teams work in an integrated manner to support sustainable peace and sustainable development outcomes through conflict-sensitive and human rights-based approaches. Through a complementary thematic portfolio, policy and advocacy, technical accompaniment, partnerships and tools, the GRP Hub contributes to UNDP’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025 with a focus on Leaving No One Behind, governance, resilience, and structural transformation.
The International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (IDPS) Secretariat, hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s GRP Hub, provides coordination support through facilitating regular communication among its constituencies, coordinating meetings and events to support the implementation of IDPS activities and generation of IDPS policy outputs, and facilitating linkages between IDPS and other relevant fora. The Secretariat further provides communication support, facilitating knowledge sharing, consolidating, and disseminating learning from IDPS engagement, and maintaining IDPS presence online. The IDPS Secretariat supports the IDPS constituencies in achieving the IDPS workplan and priorities, which include supporting global policy development efforts on peacebuilding and statebuilding through tripartite political dialogue, contributing to efforts at country level in translating global policy agendas into concrete, joint engagement on conflict prevention, peacebuilding and statebuilding, and advocating and enabling resourcing opportunities for prevention and peacebuilding, including through South-South and Triangular Cooperation, and strengthening gender-responsive and inclusive peacebuilding and statebuilding approaches.
Position Purpose
Working closely with the IDPS Programme Specialist and IDPS Programme Associate, the Governance, Rule of Law and Peacebuilding (Gender) Analyst will provide key support, technical assistance to support the functioning of the IDPS Secretariat managed by UNDP. The Analyst will provide technical assistance and policy development to support mainstreaming gender responsiveness and youth inclusion in the engagement of the IDPS Secretariat, in line with the IDPS Gender and Inclusion Strategy. The Analyst will draft and disseminate relevant advocacy messages under the guidance of the IDPS Co-Chairs, to elevate shared messages of the IDPS partnership to inform relevant peacebuilding and statebuilding policy processes. The Analyst will support the organization of IDPS dialogues, consultations, Steering Group meetings, focal points meetings, and other relevant engagements for the IDPS partnership in line with the IDPS workplan.
The Governance, Rule of Law, and Peacebuilding (Gender) Analyst will further support the GRP Hub on policy development, knowledge, communications and advocacy efforts on conflict prevention, peacebuilding, women peace and security and youth peace and security issues. In this capacity, the incumbent will support the GRP Hub co-Directors with the coordination of the planning and visioning for the Hub. The incumbent will advise the co-Directors regarding communication and teambuilding within the Hub and with other UNDP units and will support to the conceptualization and coordination of Prevention Academy.
