Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The UN Women Liaison Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), based in Abu Dhabi, UAE aims to strengthen partnerships, mobilizes resources, and raises awareness to advance UN Women’s key priorities in the UAE and beyond. The UAE has demonstrated strong leadership in advancing gender equity and the Women Peace and Security (WPS) agenda through its first National Action Plan (NAP) on UNSCR 1325 and the establishment of the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Women Peace and Security Training Programme and Centre of Excellence.
This work is guided by the Strategic Partnership Framework (SPF) signed between UN Women and the Government of the UAE, which outlines joint priorities, including advancing the WPS agenda at national, regional, and global levels.
In line with the UAE’s recent adoption of the SPF with UN Women, this consultancy aims to:
The consultant will be reporting to the Programme Specialist, and will be supported by the Operation Associate, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.
Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work
1.Contribute to the Development of the Second National Action Plan (NAP) on UNSCR 1325
2. Collaborate with the Foreign Policy Specialist to Integrate the WPS Agenda into UAE’s policies as needed by the government
3. Build Capacities of National Partners on the WPS Agenda
4. Facilitate Knowledge Exchange.
Consultant’s Workplace and Official Travel
This is a home-based consultancy. As part of this assignment, there may be occasional travel to Abu Dhabi.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
