Result of Service The Systems Monitoring and Troubleshooting Individual Contractor will assist the head of unit in multiple current and future tasks and projects in multiple IT technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities Background: This position is located in the Decision-Support and Data Science Division. The Decision-Support and Data Science Division (DSDSD) is part of ESCWA”s broader modernization and innovation efforts, providing advanced analytics and decision-support services within ESCWA, other UN entities, and Member States. Aligned with the UN 2.0 agenda and grounded in strategic foresight, DSDS leverages data-driven insights, emerging technologies, and scenario-based planning to anticipate trends and proactively inform policymaking and operations. Its core functions include data integration and management; data quality assurance; advanced analytics and modeling; machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions; real-time dashboards and performance reporting; and data visualization and business intelligence and the design and development of specialized digital decision-support tools. Through these capabilities, DSDS empowers evidence-based decision-making, fosters organizational efficiency, and catalyzes strategic innovation across the region, supporting sustainable development outcomes regionally and globally. The Systems Monitoring and Troubleshooting Individual Contractor will contribute in the enhancement of ESCWA”s IT services monitoring program by proactively identifying problems and risks and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to minimize the impact on service delivery. The Contractor will also be required to contribute to ongoing projects using cloud technologies, build and maintain data and/or CI/CD pipelines, and work with Proxmox. The Contractor will work closely with the Cloud & Infrastructure and Cyber Security teams. Duties and responsibilities: The individual contractor will work on the following tasks:

• Assist in monitoring and investigating ICT infrastructure systems i.e. SIEM, Network monitoring, Identity service engine, Wireless controller, etc.
• Assist in monitoring cybersecurity systems i.e. Microsoft Defender, Firewalls, etc.
• Assist the infrastructure and Cybersecurity Operations team to track vulnerabilities and problems identified.
• Assist in contributing to new and ongoing projects using Cloud technologies and virtualization.

Qualifications/special skills A First Level University degree in Telecommunication, Information Technology, Computer Science or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. No previous work experience for this position is required. Knowledge of the relevant subjects in at least two of the following areas is required: Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC); Threat, Vulnerability, and Incident Management; BCP/DR; Application Security; Information Security; Network Security; Virtualization; DevOps, Core networking technologies such as switches, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, and network access control systems. Familiarity with modern enterprise platforms and tools for identity services, threat prevention, and cloud integration is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required and knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
