In Burundi, UNICEF has a very diverse portfolio of responsibilities but all with the same objective which is to assist the Government and other stakeholders to fulfill children’s economic, social, cultural, political, and civil rights. The UNICEF country program in Burundi aims to improve the lives of children and women in the following key areas: Child and maternal health, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Social Policy and Advocacy, Adolescent empowerment and community resilience, and Humanitarian response.

It is within this same framework that this consultancy is positioned, with the purpose of providing technical support in organizing First Food concertation Workshop and in developing a multisectoral budgeted plan, aiming at improving children’s diets through a multi-system approach in alignment with the Global Nutrition Strategy 2020-2030 as well as with the complementary feeding frameworks for action taking into consideration the national context.

How can you make a difference?

The consultancy will be undertaken in two phases:
• Phase 1: Support the organization of a concertation workshop: adaptation of First Food global framework for action into national context taking also into account the first food for Africa initiative priorities.
• Phase 2: Develop multisectoral budgeted plans for improving: children’s diets in Burundi.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• Master’s degree in public health and nutrition, Nutrition Science preferred or other relevant field, such as Public Health, Epidemiology, Programming and Planning
• Previous experience in developing strategies, plans and costing of the plan; Experience in conducting similar assignments, with samples of own work to be submitted upon request; Minimum five years of relevant work experience in nutrition programming;
  Strong interpersonal skills and, experienced in facilitating multi-stakeholder workshop; Previous experience with multi-sectoral, multi-stakeholder program planning, development, review, and evaluation; Sound research and analytical skills; Previous experience in Burundi context
• Fluency in written and spoken French and English is required.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
