In the Pacific we work in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu: These 14 Pacific island countries are home to 2.3 million people, including 1.2 million children and youth, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean, an area comparable to the combined size of the United States of America and Canada. Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu are classified as Fragile States according to World Bank/OECD criteria.

Ministry of Health in Samoa, has been implementing a Health System Strengthening project for roll out of newer vaccines since 2019. Under this project, UNICEF supports cold chain strengthening and provides technical assistance for vaccine introduction, including policy and planning, procurement, effective vaccine management, service delivery, and demand creation through social behavior change communication and community engagement. Between 2021 and 2022, three new vaccines – rotavirus, PCV, and HPV – were introduced with UNICEF’s support. The country also completed its first-ever Effective Vaccine Management Assessment (EVMA) in 2023, followed by an improvement plan endorsed by the Ministry of Health. Several activities identified in this plan require specialized external technical assistance to ensure timely and high-quality implementation.

Remarks:

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants.
