The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Unit Secretary provides clerical and receptionist support for the Medical Surgical unit and is the communication link of the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school Diploma
• Comprehension of medical terminology

Scheduling Requirements:

• Full Time
• Day 7am – 7:30pm three days a week
• Rotating weekends and holidays

Essential Functions:

• Answers phones/intercoms in a courteous and timely manner, screens calls and refers messages appropriately
• Assists in the flow of department work processes by running errands to other departments as requested
• Functions in an emergency as a team member with guidance from supervisory personnel
• Maintains adequate supply of clerical materials,
• Maintains proper order of patient charts as per established guidelines
• Participates in financial control through appropriate use of supplies and adherence to charging mechanisms
• Performs duties to support the nursing staff,
• Processes the flow of information on the nursing unit and when appropriate, with outside institutions and individuals as directed
• Provides accurate computer data entry of patient information
• Sorts and distributes mail
• Transcribes physician orders from medical record into informational systems
