JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose Statement
The job of Vehicle Tech Lead is done for the purpose/s of ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition and includes determining needed repairs on district vehicles; performing required repairs and preventive maintenance; providing written documentation of repairs to meet district, state and federal requirements; overseeing the workforce and serving as supervisor in the absence of the Shop Foreman.
Essential Functions
- Maintains and performs mechanical repairs of District vehicles; performs complex comprehensive repair of brakes and suspension systems; repairs engine and transmission systems; performs electrical work and monitoring work completion.
- Performs diagnostic testing to troubleshoot and identify issues; evaluates and prioritizes maintenance and repair requirements; diagnoses electrical issues and air conditioning systems.
- Inspects school buses and other district vehicles for the purpose of adhering to a preventive maintenance schedule and safety inspection standards and requirements.
- Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe work area.
- Oversees the preventive maintenance program for the purpose of ensuring that vehicles are in safe operating order and meeting federal and state requirements.
- Performs road tests on all vehicles/school buses for the purpose of ensuring that vehicles are in safe operating order.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. purchase orders, records of repairs, maintenance logs, costs, vehicle warranties, etc.) for the purpose of conveying required information and meeting federal and state requirements.
- Responds to road calls regarding disabled vehicles for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field and/or determining if vehicle needs to be towed.
- Serves as supervisor in absence of the Shop Foreman for the purpose of sharing in the responsibility of maintaining a safe and operable fleet.
- Trains technicians as may be required for the purpose of providing information on the proper operation of equipment and ensuring repairs are performed safety and within specifications.
Other Functions
- Assists other technicians as needed for the purpose of completing difficult tasks and responding to coworker requests.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Attends safety meetings and other in service meetings for the purpose of making sure the job is done in a safe manner.

Mental Requirements
Learning Development- Level D Specialized vocational or technical knowledge providing a command of certain technical, administrative, and/or operative practices and techniques. Learning development involves the completion of a formal technical/vocational curriculum often resulting in a degree.
Problem Solving – Level 2 Work situations require consideration and interpretation of circumstances or information to choose the most effective responses. Solutions may be somewhat technical, yet are relatively straightforward, obvious and well-defined once problems are understood. Responses come from the realm of prior learning and experiences.
Physical Requirements
Physical Skill – Level A Basic level of learned physical skill is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
Physical Effort – Level 2 Job requires light physical effort as a part of regular work routine, such as frequent standing and walking; frequent lifting, guiding, and/or carrying of light-weight materials or equipment; occasional periods of sustained effort.

Human Relations Skill- Level B Job requires patience in communication and well-developed verbal skills to exchange technical or complex information with individuals or small, informal groups. skills in establishing harmonious relationships and gaining cooperation are important.
Scope of Contacts – Level 1 The important job contacts are with peers in the immediate work group and immediate supervisor. Occasional contact with individuals outside the organization may occur.

Performance Environment – Level A Changes in environments, work pressure, disturbances of workflow, and irregularities in work schedules are infrequent.
Physical Working Conditions – Level 4 Extensive and continuous exposure to hazardous conditions. Dangerous work situations. High likelihood of serious injury or illness if proper precautions are not taken. highly undesirable assignments.

Experience, Education, and Certifications
Experience: At least 10 years of Heavy line experience, with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education: Targeted job related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements.
Certifications/Clearances: Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed. Commercial Driver’s License Class B with P&S endorsements, 609 Refrigerant Recycling and Procedure certificate, Cummins cerfification on Mid- range engines.
Compensation Details
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Pay Schedule: Hourly – Grade 118
Work Calendar: Support 12 Months Long
