War Child Alliance is looking for an experienced and qualified video production consultant to create a compelling video to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children and families in war-affected communities of Ukraine. The video will emphasize the urgency of the situation, highlight personal stories, showcase project success and impact, and underscore the needs of these communities. The final product will aim to inspire continued support and engagement from our stakeholders.

Background

War Child works to improve the psychosocial well-being of children affected by conflict. We empower children in everything we do, working to tap into their inner strength through our creative and engaging approach. Our mission is to protect, educate, and stand up for the rights of children living through and recovering from war. We deliver vital child protection, education, and psychosocial support to help children rebuild their lives.

War Child is currently implementing a project funded by OCHA aimed at meeting the urgent needs of children and their caregivers in war-affected communities of Ukraine. This project focuses on providing life-saving information and assistance, and ensuring dignified access to quality child protection, education, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services. Localized and community-based approaches will be deployed, focusing on addressing trauma, distress, and child protection risks in community, kindergarten, and school settings.

Your Mission

Pre-Production:

  • Collaborate with the project team to develop a storyboard and script, ensuring alignment with project objectives and War Child’s branding guidelines.
  • Identify and plan for the inclusion of personal stories from beneficiaries, including children, parents, teachers, and personnel from partner NGOs, to highlight the impact of War Child’s work.
  • Prepare a detailed production timeline.

Production:

  • Film on-site in selected locations across the following oblasts of Ukraine (Dnipropetrovska, Donetska, Zaporizka, Kharkivska, and Mykolaivska), with consideration given to the evolving security situation. Filming in certain locations may be adjusted or avoided based on safety assessments.
  • Capture impactful visuals, including:
      • Personal stories from beneficiaries.
        – Key project activities and services delivered.
        – Testimonials from project staff and community members.
  • Ensure ethical considerations and consent procedures are strictly followed during filming.

Post-Production:

  • Edit and produce a high-quality video (approximately 3-5 minutes in length) in Ukrainian with English subtitles, incorporating:
      • Clear narration or subtitles.
        – Background music and sound effects where appropriate.
        – Project branding elements and messaging
  • Submit a draft version to the project team for review and incorporate feedback.
  • Deliver the final video in multiple formats suitable for online and offline use.

Your Profile

  • Education : Degree in film production, media studies, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience : At least 5 years of experience in video production, preferably for humanitarian or non-profit organizations.
  • Story Telling: Proven experience in storytelling through video, especially in capturing sensitive topics such as mental health, child protection, and education.
  • Video Editing: Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve).
  • Ethical Considerations: Strong understanding of ethical considerations when working with vulnerable populations, particularly children.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively and respond to feedback promptly.
  • Languages: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Ukrainian.
  • Mission Alignment: Affinity with War Child’s mission and core values (Impact, Creativity, Inspiration, and Integrity).
