Ranked 158th out of 191 countries on the Human Development Index (UNDP, 2021/2022), it has significant disparities between urban and rural areas, and between girls and boys. Since 1977, UNICEF has been working closely with the government, civil society, technical and financial partners, young people and communities to improve access to education, health services, protection, water, sanitation, nutrition and social policies for children.
The 2024-2026 cooperation program pays particular attention to girls’ education, protection against violence, community health, and the fight against child labor. How can you make a difference?
The WASH and Climate Officer reports to the Chief of field Office (Level 3) for supervision. The WASH and Climate Officer provides technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the WASH & Climate programming process. The Officer prepares, manages and implements a variety of technical and administrative tasks, related to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the CSD output results of the country programme.

Minimum requirements:
An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering or another relevant technical field.
(While advanced university degrees for WASH positions are strongly preferable, offices are able to request a University degree at this level if they find difficulty in attracting a sufficient amount of candidates)
Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset
a minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH & Climate change -related programmes for developing countries is required.
HUMANITARIAN: nil
Fluency in French is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

This position has been assessed as an elevated risk role for Child Safeguarding purposes as it is either a role with direct contact with children, a role that works directly with identifiable children’s data, a safeguarding response role, or an assessed risk role.
