The WASH Specialist reports to the WASH Manager at P-4 level for guidance and general supervision. The Specialist supports the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the WASH CEE programme within the country programme. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming process, facilitating the administration and achievement of WASH-related output results in the country programme.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, engineering or another relevant technical field.
  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.

Work Experience: 

Required:

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience at the national and/or international levels on in WASH-related programmes
  • In depth understanding of and extensive engagement in the WASH sector in Pakistan, including knowledge of the structures, roles and responsibilities of Government stakeholders and with government and non-government partners
  • Demonstrated capacity in WASH enabling environment and system strengthening
  • Demonstrated capacity in climate resilience aspects of WASH
  • Demonstrated experience to deliver through effective working relationships both within and outside an organization
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop proposals, reports and grant management
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills, advocacy and presentation skills
  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas: programme/project management, capacity development, knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation
  • At least one year of work in humanitarian situations

Desirables:

  • Effective WASH social and behavior change
  • Menstrual health and hygiene
  • Rural WASH
  • Knowledge of child rights and gender equality principles, gender sensitive programming and gender issues in the WASH sector
  • Previous experience within UNICEF

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of the local language of the duty station is considered an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
