Job Description
Wastewater Technicians, also known as wastewater operators, are responsible for the treatment, monitoring, and disposal of wastewater. They work with pumps, valves, pipes, tanks, and other equipment to move and treat water before it’s returned to the Wastewater treatment facility. environment They also monitor the quality of water throughout the treatment process. Wastewater technicians use their understanding of the treatment process to ensure that their team works safely and accurately.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for safe, efficient, and effective operation and maintenance of the water and wastewater treatment facilities; as well as, the distribution and collection systems, and pumping facilities.
- Monitor, observe variations and interpret the performance of all equipment, gauges, meters, control panels and charts to determine processing requirements.
- Perform or supervise safe, preventative maintenance and repair on machinery and equipment. Update and maintain records of completed maintenance.
- Calibration of Flow meters, PH meters, Level meters, air monitoring and other equipment as required by manufacturer.
- Extract samples and performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests and analysis. Assemble instruments and equipment for analytical or research work. Safely prepare chemical and bacteriological media, stains, reagents and tests solutions used in the laboratory. Clean, maintain and store instruments and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and logging of all pertinent information required in water and wastewater treatment operations. Work includes preparation and submittal of necessary data and reports to other governmental agencies as required. Prepare and submit monthly operations and performance reports to region office and client as directed.
- Perform meter reading of utility meters as required including turn-ons and shut-offs.
- Order, store and account for chemicals, utilities, contract services, and other materials and supplies in the most cost-effective manner.
- Ensure the general maintenance of building(s), grounds and company equipment, including tools is performed.
- General Working knowledge of controls and electric (low voltage), with knowledge of OSHA general industry electrical safety (LOTO)
- General knowledge of OSHA electrical Arc Flash safety.
- General knowledge of PLCs (programming logic controller) and PLC troubleshooting.
- Completing or supervising all special projects associated with wastewater facilities as requested
- Completing or supervising basic maintenance and repair needs to ensure the timely completion.

Qualification
Qualifications:
- Obtain a Powered Industrial Equipment Certification (PIT/forklift)
- Hoist, pump and valve operation.
- Chemical storage and handling, chemical waste safety and hazardous waste response.
- Three to four years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or agency permits or regulations.
- Write Standard Operating Procedures, One-point lessons, work instructions.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must obtain a Wastewater Operator License for the state of Arkansas within 6 months of start of employment.
- Must complete the EPA Free Webinar Training for Wastewater Operators
