As part of RBP Wellness team, and in support of the Regional Medical Officer and Regional Counsellor, the nurse will provide technical, administrative and logistic support to the prioritized health projects/programmes and emergency support to Country Offices, s/he will also collaborate closely HQ Medical and Wellness.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receive, review and route all incoming material, indicating priority items and place the information along with any background information with the digital medical file for the attention of the physician.
Operationalize the Travel Clinic, including the preparation and distribution of travel health kits for staff scheduled for duty travel, as well as providing destination-specific health advice.
Advise staff on vaccination requirements, including referrals to travel health clinics for vaccinations, and coordinate vaccination campaigns at country offices and regional bureau.
Receive clients, arrange client consultations and respond to enquiries of a medical-administrative nature.
Prepare correspondence of a medical and semi-technical nature as required.
Provide administrative support to travel, training and other operational activities related to the Medical Officer’s and Counsellor’s duties when necessary.
Utilize the Occupational Health electronic record system to manage staff health records efficiently.
Consolidate and report on health-related statistics including mortality, morbidity, evacuations, service incurred illness and injuries, sick leave, compensation claims, and disability cases for the country offices.
Implement health education activities and communication for staff in the region covering topics such as travel health, disease outbreaks, communicable and non-communicable diseases, preventive care, first aid and other relevant medical issues.
Provide strategic and technical inputs on disease outbreak response and preparedness.
Participate in the pre-planning of WFP’s emergency response operations, ensuring that health considerations are integrated into logistics and operational planning to provide appropriate protection measures for WFP staff.
Propose, assess, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for staff protection, particularly in higher-risk occupational settings such as food distributions, ports, warehouses with casual laborers, drivers, and cleaners.
Evaluate and facilitate staff access to health facilities at the regional referral center in Panama, ensuring they receive appropriate care.
Assess disease outbreaks or other environmental hazards that could have an impact on staff health and WFP’s operations, recommend and implement appropriate mitigating measures as applicable.
Support Wellness Committees with the development and implementation of Wellness initiatives in the Country Offices and the Regional Bureau.
Coordinate all actions with the Regional Medical Officer and Regional Counsellor to ensure a unified approach to staff health and safety.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

Establish and coordinate the travel clinic and access to vaccinations in Country Offices. Deliverables will include number of staff consulted for travel and other guidance, number of travel kits administered, number of referrals, trainings conducted, and health awareness initiatives done in country offices and the regional bureau.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

A nationally or internationally recognized valid nursing qualification and license to practice nursing.
Training in public health, travel/tropical medicine and emergency medicine are desirable (certification in BLS, PHTLS, ACLS are an asset).

Experience:

At least 5 years of progressive professional experience in nursing of which at least 3 years should be in a capacity directly relevant to the current position, preferably in a UN medical service or equivalent environment.
Experience, with ongoing professional development in the field of travel/tropical medicine, occupational health and emergency medicine.

Knowledge & Skills:

Excellent teamwork, planning and organizing skills.
Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills and ability to understand diverse medical terminology.

Languages:

Fluency in Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
