The Murphy Institute’s Worker Education and Workforce Development (WEWD) at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) is a program that provides training and support services to adult learners and union workers, helping them pursue their education and advance their careers. Worker Education is planning to promote its programs through social media widely.

Position Overview: We are seeking an energetic, self-motivated Social Media Associate to develop, manage and grow our social media presence. This position plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining various social media platforms while creating and designing content to promote our Worker Education programs.

Under the direction of the Director of Worker Education, the Social Media Associate will be responsible for engaging key audiences, including current and prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, and program partners. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, a creative eye, and technical expertise to manage our social media platforms efficiently and effectively.

Other key responsibilities include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Create and manage new social media platforms to expand the Worker Education program’s online presence.
  • Develop and manage content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) , including social media posts, status updates, photos, and videos. Utilize graphical interfaces to enhance content presentation when needed.
  • Execute day-to-day social media activities, such as posting, sharing, engaging, liking, and increasing social media reach.
  • Assist with developing and executing social media strategies to increase engagement and brand awareness.
  • Collaborate with the Worker Education and Communications & Marketing teams to amplify messaging and content across all social media channels, reaching both internal audiences (students, faculty, and staff) and external audiences (prospective students, alumni, partners).
  • Stay up-to-date with social media trends and platform updates to ensure content is fresh and engaging and track analytics and optimize content for performance
  • Work with creative teams and external vendors to execute creative vision for all contents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with social media platforms, including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube
  • Experience planning social media programs across owned (i.e. Blogs, Brand Facebook, Instagram & Twitter accounts), earned (i.e. non-brand Facebook pages, Instagram account and tweets) and paid (i.e. sponsored tweets, promoted posts, etc.)
  • Experience with leveraging social media management and intelligence tools for organizing
  • Experience writing, editing, and crafting social-centric content
  • Experience with graphic design or video editing
  • Superior communication and organizational skills, detail oriented, must be able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in team-oriented atmosphere
  • Knowledge of Digital & Social Marketing current best practices and understanding of Digital production & communication processes and social media legal guidelines
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and processes for brand management and creative development, including research tools and evaluation of results
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed by department

COMPENSATION

$51.32 – $59.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.

CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
