Job Overview:

The Youth Career Readiness Coach supports clients in the IRC’s Connect to Success (C2S) program in reaching their career goals. Connect to Success is a program that serves out-of-school refugee youth and young adults (ages 16-24 years old), providing one-on-one coaching and case management, as well as group workshops and enrichment opportunities. The Youth Career Readiness Coach will report to the Connect to Success Coordinator and work with the colleagues on the Youth Programs team to coordinate service delivery.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• In collaboration with C2S Program Coordinator, perform case management and individualized career coaching services for youth/young adults in C2S in accordance with their Individual Service Plan, including support in all aspects of job seeking, career-pathing, and goal articulation.

• Coach students through Penn Foster virtual high school diploma curriculum:

o Orient students to the curriculum and expectations of the virtual high school diploma

program.

o Support students as they engage with the curriculum and develop their skills, including

language fluency and comprehension.

• Design and lead college and career readiness workshops on topics including resume writing, interview skills, financial aid, and college application process.

• Design and implement opportunities for career advancement, including job shadowing, career fairs, networking opportunities, and internships.

• Assist youth enrolled in other IRC Atlanta Youth Programs with job placement as needed.

• Receive referrals from internal and external partners.

• Screen, interview, and enroll potential clients for C2S

• Build relationships with refugee youth and families utilizing a trauma-informed approach in order to support student’s academic, and long-term personal and professional goals.

• Build new partnerships and maintain existing partnerships with employers, career building programs, work-force development organizations, and others.

• Research best practices in career and college readiness and propose program improvements and initiatives based on findings.

• Partner with IRC Atlanta Youth Programs for joint social and career readiness events.

• Maintain accurate and current data on all enrolled Connect to Success clients.

• Attend Connect to Success evaluation meetings and participate in implementation of the monitoring and evaluation framework.

• Meet weekly with Connect to Success Coordinator to discuss work assignment, receive support and feedback.

• Attend Youth Education Team meetings and complete administrative duties, including but not limited to reporting, timesheets, and expense reports

• Other responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling or related field preferred

Work Experience:

• Experience providing individualized support to immigrant youth who recently arrived in the US.

• 2+ years related professional experience such as teaching, tutoring, youth development or youth case management.

• 1+ year experience supervision experience preferably related to teaching/tutoring or extended learning programs.

• Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations; cross-cultural or overseas experience.

• Experience teaching English Language Learners.

• Experience teaching/tutoring virtually preferred.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

• Ability to build strong mentoring relationships with youth and provide guidance while respecting the self-determination of all clients.

• Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with external partners, including employers.

• Fluent in English, both spoken and written; Proficiency in predominant language of local client a plus but not required (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, etc.).

• Ability to learn quickly.

• Ability to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment.

• Able to work a flexible schedule that includes one evening per week and occasional weekends

• Ability to work remotely and responsibly self-manage time and tasks.

• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to work well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds.

• Demonstrated ability to use a variety of instructional strategies appropriate for individual student needs.

• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills in a multi-tasking environment

• Flexible and adaptable – able to quickly problem solve and change plans and activities according to clients’ need or unexpected circumstances.

• In-depth knowledge of positive youth development, vocational training, and youth employment.

• Knowledge of virtual learning platforms and strong technology skills to utilize platforms such as Zoom or Google Classroom, navigate common tech problems and support digital literacy.

• Must be proactive and feel comfortable taking the lead

• Must have reliable transportation and maintain valid driver’s license and insurance coverage for vehicle

• Reliable, professional, resourceful, team-oriented and sensitive to cultural differences

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Working Environment:

• Scheduled working hours are spent in standard office work environment and program delivery in the Clarkston and Stone Mountain areas, including home visits and school visits.

• Evening work one night a week and occasional weekend work required

Compensation:

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
