Context

Selected Online Volunteers will:
• Attend two mandatory 3-hour hybrid training sessions, which will provide basic knowledge on suicide prevention, mental health communication principles, and later ethical photography practices;
• Capture at least five original photographs that expresses their perception, feelings, or thoughts related to suicide prevention, mental health, or community support;
• Complete a short reflective survey explaining the context, meaning, and ethical considerations behind their photograph and attend a 3-hour focus group discussion;
• Submit their photograph and survey responses following WHO Türkiye’s guidelines for rights-based, ethical, and inclusive communication.

About 100 Online Volunteers contributions will support an advocacy and outreach campaign promoting inclusive, stigma-free, and rights-based mental health messaging across Türkiye; especially on suicide prevention.

This assignment is part of WHO Türkiye’s broader initiative to amplify youth voices in suicide prevention and mental health promotion through creative and participatory methods considering the interest of new age tools rather than old-school methods and approaches.

The Photovoice method empowers young people to visually express their lived experiences and perspectives, fostering greater public awareness and destigmatization of mental health issues. Through mandatory trainings, we aim to support the learning curve of youths and facilitate different sources in this respect.

• Duration: Up to 12 weeks (including training, photo creation, and survey submission)
• Hours Required Per Week: 1 – 5 hours

Additional Notes:
• Attendance at the two separate 3-hour training sessions is mandatory to ensure full alignment with WHO’s mental health, suicide prevention, and ethical communication standards.
• Online Volunteers must submit original photographs taken by themselves and must obtain explicit consent from any individuals featured in their photographs.
• Photographs must adhere to ethical standards, avoiding triggering, stigmatizing, or harmful representations.
• Submitted photographs and accompanying reflections will be used only for this specific WHO Türkiye specifically for advocacy and outreach campaign and will not be repurposed for any other use without prior explicit permission.
• Online Volunteers are responsible for ensuring the privacy, dignity, and rights of all individuals captured in their images with strict sensitivity on ethical and privacy global and country level rules/regulations.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking about 100 Online Volunteers between the ages of 19 – 29, preferably students in the fields of Communication, Journalism, Media Studies; and Medical/Medicine, Psychology, Educational Psychology and Counselling or related disciplines, to participate in a Photovoice survey focused on suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Required Skills and Experience

• Aged 19 – 29 years old (mandatory)
• Currently studying or applied skills in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Medicine/Medical, Public Health, Psychology, and Educational Psychology and Counselling, or related fields;
• Interest in mental health awareness, youth engagement, and creative advocacy;
• Basic familiarity with photography and storytelling techniques (professional experience not required);
• Commitment to producing ethical, respectful, and rights-based visual content.

Languages:
• Turkish (Native or fluent proficiency required)
