Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organisation. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations. 

JOB SUMMARY

The main emphasis of this consultancy is to support and facilitate engagement within a community of practice on Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). In addition, the consultancy is intended to support existing efforts to establish a UCP Academy and the compilation, conceptualisation, writing and editing of NP`s global annual programming report. See the next section for a detailed outline of deliverables. Some of the deliverables are time-bound, others are more flexible. Some deliverables may require more or less time than predicted, thus a certain flexibility is expected. Optional tasks have been outlined in case core deliverables require less time than estimated. Work hours can be flexible but total amount of hours cannot exceed the equivalent of a full-time job. 

TIMELINE

The consultancy is expected to take place between December and March 2025

DELIVERABLES

Coordination of UCP/A Community of practice

  1. Preparing weekly or bi-weekly updates for the membership of the UCP/A community of practice, including news items about UCP and opportunities for members to participate (approximately 1-2 days of work per update), starting the first week of January
  2. Preparing 1 quarterly Newsletter for the UCP/A Community of Practice to be issued by March 2025 (approximately 1 week`s work)
  3. Facilitating online consultation/dialogue meetings with members of the UCP CoP. 3 meetings in January, February and March 2025. Topics are identified in consultation with members.
  4. Participation in UCP/A working groups. Approximately once a month.
  5. Relaunching the Steering Group of the UCP/A CoP for 2025. The steering group was established in 2024 for the first time for the duration of 1 year. Time frame: December 2024-January 2025
  6. Maintain and manage the UPC/A global listserv.
  7. Optional: assessing pathways and strategies for moving CoP efforts forward in 2025 (and beyond)
  8. Optional: Draft overview of Academic literature on UCP that has been published in the past 5 years (including identification of sources and trends)
  9. Optional: Draft overview of online UCP courses that have been provided thus far by various entities.

Supporting the establishment of UCP Academy

  1. Support Global Training Manager in the identification and operationalisation of an online platform for the hosting of an online UCP course. Amount of time and specific tasks to be determined. Indicated time: December 2024-January 2025
  2. Support NP`s global Training Manager in the marketing of a pilot online course on UCP. Amount of time and specific tasks to be determined. Indicated time: February 2025

Drafting 2024 annual programming report for NP

Draft annual programming report in collaboration with NP`s Global Programming Team. See example of 2022. Approximately 1 month`s work. To be finalised by February 2025

CONSULTANT PROFILE

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to craft compelling narratives
  • Experience or familiarity with the field of Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP)
  • Exceptional coordination skills, with the ability to prioritise, plan, research, and organise data
  • Research skills and experience
  • Technical understanding of online learning platforms
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a small, flexible team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and institutions.
  • Passion for the mission and values of the organisation.
