As a trainee in this position, you will learn how to supervise offenders released on probation or parole to serve the remainder of their sentence in the community. NOTE: Senate Bill 411 merged the Department of Corrections and the Board of Probation and Parole. This position is within the Department of Corrections.
As a Parole Agent 1, you will learn how to counsel inmates in correctional institutions to prepare them for parole hearings that will lead to their release and re-entry into the community. You can expect to prepare and initiate pre-parole investigations, review inmate cases for domestic violence history, complete sex offender registration when necessary, and aid in other parole-related processes. In this position, you will conduct orientation for newly committed offenders to inform them of pre-parole services. You will also conduct parole education classes to educate inmates about the parole process. Additionally, you will act as a point of contact for inmates, their families, government agencies, and the public.
Successful completion of the 12-month training and probationary period will result in a promotion to Parole Agent 2 with an increase in salary!
