JOB DESCRIPTION AND position REQUIREMENTS

The African Studies Program in The College of the Liberal Arts at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for part-time lecturer positions.

The mission of the African Studies Program is to teach and research about Africa, in all its immensity and diversity from the ancient past to the present. As an interdisciplinary program, we cover topic areas in history, culture, geography, economics, politics, and literature, with specific focus in areas such as feminism, development, linguistics, extractive economies, and post-colonial studies in the shaping of modern-day Africa.

A PhD in Development Economics is required. Candidates with Ph.D. degrees in Development Economics may also be assigned to teach upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses. The anticipated start date for these positions is Spring 2026.

These are one semester, non-tenure track appointments with the possibility of reappointment. Part-time lecturers normally teach one to two courses per semester.
