position Summary
Zachry Underground and Utility Services is seeking a Utility Laborer with construction experience to perform various tasks involving physical labor on underground utility projects. Candidates should have general construction experience, and experience installing dry utilities or underground structures is a plus. This position may also include driving equipment to and from the job site at the beginning and end of each shift.
What You’ll Do
- Operate hand and power tools such as hammers, sledgehammers, pry bars, and screwdrivers
- Hand-dig trenches with shovels for conduit placement around live utility services
- Operate a jackhammer weighing between 10-90 pounds, both vertically and horizontally
- Use asphalt saws and quickie saws for cutting materials
- Operate a tamper in ditches and confined areas
- Drive a single-axle dump truck (CDL not required)
- Pull and maneuver utility trailers safely
- Operate small equipment such as mini excavators and trench rollers
- Handle and assemble 20-foot pipe joints in ditches ranging from 2 to 4 feet deep
- Climb ladders and work at various elevations as needed
- Handle 4x8x3/4″ plywood and other construction materials
- Push manual and operate mechanical wheelbarrows to move materials
- Load and unload miscellaneous materials such as lumber, plywood, cement bags, sandbags, and buckets
- Maintain availability Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (up to 55 hours per week)
- Assist other craft workers as needed
- Perform other labor-related duties as assigned by the supervisor

What We’re Looking For
- Physical ability to perform assigned labor-related tasks, including climbing ladders and entering or exiting ditches
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
- General labor skills and familiarity with construction work environments
- Basic knowledge of operating hand and power tools such as hammers, sledgehammers, pry bars, and screwdrivers
- Dependable, self-motivated, and task-oriented individual with a strong work ethic
