position Summary:

The Category Director is a strategic leader responsible for driving sales, margin, and market share growth across assigned merchandise categories for Family Dollar. This role will oversee category strategy, vendor partnerships, assortment planning, pricing, and promotional execution. The Category Director will lead a team of merchants and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver compelling value to our customers while achieving financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute category strategies that align with company goals for sales, margin, and customer growth
• Lead assortment planning, line reviews, and seasonal strategies to maximize sales and profitability
• Negotiate vendor agreements, terms, and cost of goods to deliver value and margin improvements
• Partner with Marketing, Supply Chain, Store Operations, and Planning teams to drive executional excellence
• Analyze category performance, customer insights, and market trends to identify growth opportunities
• Oversee pricing strategies and promotional planning to ensure competitiveness in the marketplace
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of merchants and analysts, fostering collaboration and accountability
• Maintain strong industry and vendor relationships to keep Family Dollar ahead of emerging retail trends

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Marketing, or related field required; MBA preferred
• 8+ years of progressive experience in merchandising, category management, or retail strategy (discount or value retail a plus)
• Proven track record of delivering sales and margin growth through strategic category leadership
• Strong vendor negotiation and relationship management skills
• Analytical mindset with ability to leverage data and insights to drive decision-making
• Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic retail environment
