Through a wealth of experience and knowledge Wincanton provides business critical services including storage, handling and distribution; high volume eFulfilment; retailer ‘dark stores’; two-person home delivery; fleet and transport management; and network optimisation for many of the UK’s best-known companies.Successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance prior to commencing employment, this includes being able to provide a minimum of 3 years consecutive UK employment/education & residential historyThe role will report into the Operations Manager – and will support our warehouses based in Weston Super Mare.The role will oversee the day-to-day operation of the warehouse, liaising with suppliers, contractors and various stakeholders, managing a team for 30 colleagues with support of shift leads. Prior experience within a warehouse or distribution is essential.Why Wincanton?

Day to Day

  • Effective line management of shift leads and MTOs where required; Return to work, regular 121s, performance management
  • Team Development: establishing training needs of the team and liaising with relevant parties
  • Proactively contribute to achieving performance and operational targets for each shift, safety, quality, service, absence
  • Lead the operation in the absence of the Operations Manager
  • Create and deliver briefings
  • Establish priorities, communicate, and escalate them effectively
  • Liaise with customer, colleagues and other third parties to meet customer expectations
  • Be a presence in the warehouse, and lead my example with a safety-first approach
  • Management and upkeep of the payroll system; Oracle/Kronos
  • Assigning safety roles for the day and ensuring communication boards are up to date
  • Collating data for senior management and the client and communicating this when requested
  • Use of safety systems across the contract such as: Insight and EcoOnline
  • Ensuring FieldView is right first time and training colleagues to continuously improve
  • Contributing, mentoring, and driving team development
  • Assist in completing risk assessments
  • Permits to work completed and compliant and filed correctly

What will you bring?

  • Basic MS skills
  • Driving license desirable
  • Previous warehouse experience – essential
  • Confidence to escalate concerns to senior management
  • Previous use of Manual Handling Equipment: LLOP, Counterbalance, Reach Truck, EPT
  • First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Fire Marshall, spill responder, Incident controller and banksman
  • Experience of leading a team – essential
